British Columbia Provincial Football Association
BCFOA Level 4 Officials Clinic

The British Columbia Football Officials Association (BCFOA) recently hosted a Level 4 officials’ clinic in Surrey. They welcomed 17 attendees from Kelowna, Victoria and the lower mainland. The pool of Level 3 officials’ have been field evaluated throughout last season and they received in-depth classroom instruction by Carey Anderson, BCFOA. The successful candidates will move up to Level 4 which will open up more inter-provincial travel and exchange at the BCFC Junior and U-sport (CIS) levels.

The BCFOA is actively recruiting new officials throughout the province and have a Level 1 clinic scheduled in Prince George in June and are planning clinics on Vancouver Island and the lower mainland in the next few months. Carey reports that he is planning a Level 2 clinic in 2019 and once the Level 2 pool increases they will host a Level 3 in 2020.

The BCFOA is also hosting a U-Sports officials’ clinic in July 2018.

These level clinics are an effort by Football Canada to have standardization across the country for all officials.  Level four is for officials that officiate at the CJFL and / or Usports levels.  A lot of effort and time goes into preparation of the clinics and yes the officials received homework before they attended.  The use of video from game films has improved and aided the level of instruction to our officials. The quality of those game films has increased greatly over the last couple of years thanks to the efforts of the behind the scenes people for all the teams out there. Those efforts are appreciated.

Thanks to Carey Anderson and his "crew" for organizing and delivering the clinic.
